I’ll never have another regular bed truck to work my farm. It cuts down drastically on my travel time. “The time savings are stacking up to an incredible degree. A football goal-style rack can be inserted in seconds into a front receiver to carry pipe or suction lines along the headache rack – no trailer required. At the end of the bed sits a vice – on-site no matter where Dulaney goes on the farm.ĭulaney has a Ranch Hand Bullnose front bumper on the Chevrolet 2500HD – no more worries about collision damage from deer or wild pigs across the operation. The bed is covered with a tough horse stall mat which prevents the sliding and bunching of normal truck mats. The compressor is easily removable: When Dulaney pulls a gooseneck, he takes out the four bolts, unplugs the power supply, and it’s off in minutes. On the passenger bed-side, and air compressor is mounted on a metal plate atop a rubber mat. Now I have a place to wash my hands in the middle of a field and I’ve always got clean water to rinse a part.” “I screwed in a hydraulic adapter and ball valve with a 1’ hose. On the backside of the K2 cooler, the drain plug is fitted with half-inch straight threads. The result was a skirted, KnapHeide flatbed on a 2015 Chevrolet 2500HD crewcab, rigged with farm tool essentials.īeside the hose reel sits a K2 cooler held by two eye bolts and turnbuckles to prevent sliding and theft. Dulaney did the labor by himself in the Gen 4 shop. For six months he thought over the design, picked his placement, ordered the parts, and in just under two days, assembled what serves as a moving office. I kept asking myself, ‘Where can I make myself more efficient?’”Ī flatbed truck option made sense to Dulaney, but he knew tool placement was the key to efficiency. “Even if it was just a roll of poly, I’d have to use a trailer. The toolbox, along with an air compressor, took up most of the bed and left little room for hauling. A single trip out of the field carried little consequence, but over the course of a season, the efficiency waste mounted to a slow bleed that ultimately affected all areas of his operation.ĭulaney, who farms 4,000 acres with Gen 4 Farms in Clarksdale, Miss., was driving a typical large pickup with a Pack Rat toolbox in the bed. Regarding the book as a whole, something was just fundamentally different about the vibrant, nostalgia filled aesthetics Stålenhag had put to page when compared to similar forms of art. He possesses a unique capacity to juxtapose the strange and fictional with mundane scenes of suburbia and everyday life, and his photorealistic style of doing so was magnetic to me. His ability to craft these eerie and sometimes downright terrifying images is incredible, and it’s what I found so alluring. There are some things in this book that still have me reaching for answers that are just out of arms length, and all the way Stålenhag is more than happy to tease me with his visual storytelling. You learn about the robots and the drone war and the federal army and all the strange neurograph towers. The images provide a large bulk of the story, tones and colors shifting as you progress through the story, through the world. The book sprinkles interjections from Michelle and other individuals of interest in between it's hauntingly beautiful images of a decaying west coast as she finds herself growing closer to the end of her journey. I breezed through the book in one afternoon, half due to its short script and half due to its unwillingness to let me take a break. The Electric State is a story surrounding a nineteen year old girl named Michelle and her robot sidekick Skip on a trek through what is the scarred and battered retro-futuristic ruins of 1997 California, now known as Pacifica, to find something lost to her. More than anything, I wanted to be in one of those cars, pursuing something beyond the fog. I didn't bother to read the book's description or reviews, the image said to me everything I needed to know. I found that it was part of a book titled "The Electric State" and immediately went to Amazon to purchase it. It was a piece by a Swedish artist named Simon Stålenhag, and I was absolutely in love. I'm part of at least 20 different subreddits devoted to various forms of art, but I do recall searching for the artist after spending a few good quiet minutes just letting the image find a comfortable place in the most permanent parts of my memory. I don't recall what exact subreddit I found this image. They were driving not towards the metal giants whose transmission lines were likely humming and buzzing with energy, but past them, into that foggy future just behind those behemoth generators. The foreground showed a set of two cars making their way down a paved road with lush green flora on each side of them. Three larger than life sci-fi-esque monolithic structures stole my attention, making the rest of the scene feel like decoration in comparison. The image had a dull, early morning blue haze that drenched the scene in a very chilled, melancholy feel. I had always been interested in art of environments and landscapes and the like, and although I personally never had the mind and drive to pursue it as a serious hobby myself, I always had an appreciation for the work so many willingly shared to the rest of us untalented aesthetes. It was an absolutely beautiful piece of art which struck me unlike anything else. I remember going through my Reddit feed when a certain post, an image, pulled me from my midnight routine of infinitely scrolling. The base model, with the same Charcoal, Glacier White, or Twilight Blue covering option, is half the cost of its big siblings at $50. The Echo Dot also gets a fourth-gen makeover, sporting the new spherical design in a smaller size and in several variants. Amazon tells us to expect better sound than previous generations delivered, with a 3-inch woofer and dual tweeters that deliver “clear highs, dynamic mids, and deep bass that automatically adapts to any room.” The full-sized Echo fourth-gen runs $100 and will be available October 22 in Charcoal, Glacier White, or Twilight Blue. One of many devices introduced today, the 4th-generation Echo device is a cloth-covered sphere with a halo at the base, contrasting with the squat plastic cylinders of earlier-generation Echoes.Īmazon’s Echo series got a refresh today, moving from the earlier, prosaic “squat plastic cylinder” designs to rather fancier cloth-covered spheres. We also think the vast majority of homes are better served with three pieces rather than two. Wiring devices such as game consoles or PCs directly to a satellite node is a big win for overall Wi-Fi network quality and reliability, and we liked the company’s earlier decision to go with Ethernet jacks on all products. We’re disappointed at Amazon’s decision to go back to separate device designs for “routers” and “extenders”-and at the apparent step backward of making the base kit a two-piece, rather than a three-piece. It took a bit more digging, but we also found options to preorder a three-piece Eero 6 kit for $280 or a solo Eero 6 extender for $90. The Eero 6 Pro Router is available for preorder at $230. The Eero 6 Router can be preordered solo for $130 or with one Eero 6 Extender as a kit for $200. All three SKUs feature built-in Zigbee functionality for home automation.īoth of the Router models feature two gigabit ports and one USB-C power port the Extender has only the USB-C power port and does not offer wired connections. The Eero Pro 6 is a tri-band device (one 2.4GHz radio, with two 5GHz radios) both non-Pro devices are dual-band. The three models being released are Eero 6 Router, Eero Pro 6 Router, and Eero 6 Extender. The new kits are available for preorder today, with shipping expected to begin in early November. The Wi-Fi 6 Eero systems we spotted FCC certifications for earlier this month were announced officially today. The Ring Always Home Cam is expected to cost $250 and begin shipping sometime in 2021. Like most small drones, it integrates automatic obstacle avoidance and uses propeller shrouds to protect both the blades themselves and any objects, persons, or pets that might otherwise encounter them. Its 1080p camera is blocked by the dock itself, so if the drone is not in flight, it’s not streaming or recording. After setup, the drone can be asked to fly directly, or it can fly on its own to visit disturbances detected by Ring alarm systems. The drone operates fully autonomously, but the setup procedure involves mapping areas of the house in which it’s allowed to fly and what paths it’s allowed to take. Ring founder Jamie Siminoff says the Always Home Cam is intended to provide multiple interior viewpoints without the need for multiple interior cameras and that it’s an “obvious product that’s very hard to build.” The Always Home Cam is a tiny, self-docking drone designed to fly around inside your home, streaming video off to the cloud for review in smartphone apps. The Ring Always Home Cam is the newest device in the Ring family, which is better known for doorbells with cameras in them. Amazon also announced a new gaming service called Luna, which we’re covering in its own article. Today at Amazon’s hardware launch event, the company announced new Ring, Echo, Eero, and Fire devices. You wanted a security Ring drone flying around inside your home, right? Ring drones, Echo Dot 4th Gen, Wi-Fi 6 Eero, and more new Amazon hardware The company said it will launch the game in overseas markets but did not release the official launch schedule. While experiments like the tense post-punk of “Vanity Pail Kids” drag, at least there’s no misguided rap verses. Like any Broken Social Scene album since You Forgot It in People, there are a fair share of indulgences and moments that lack focus on the record, particularly on a tepid midsection where loose, mid-tempo jams fail to connect as they did on earlier albums. Though not as powerful as that other famous Haines-led BSS song, it’s built around a couple of repeated stanzas that gain more weight with each instance, a trick the band repeats on the wondrous yet tragic “Skyline”. Their sense of humor shines through on the Emily Haines-led “Protest Song”, a tongue-in-cheek song that finds deep emotional resonance in comparing a breakup (“You’re just the latest in a long list of lost loves”) to the band’s own history as just another instance of the long legacy of artists writing protest songs. While there’s a fair sense of gloom approaching, it’s never maudlin, as this is still Broken Social Scene. The songs dream of a world falling back to towers and masons, where the dogs are already at the door. “All the fools are winning,” acknowledges Drew on “Please Take Me with You” before asking the subject of the song to run away with him. On “Gonna Get Better”, a late-album highlight, recently added member Ariel Engle notes that even though the “future’s not what it used to be,” she urges that “things’ll get better ‘cause they can’t get much worse,” repeating it as a plea to convince herself of its truth as much as the listener. Here on lead single “Halfway Home”, the album’s closest analogue, the key refrain is “If you never run, how they gonna catch you alive?” The band still comes in with crashing waves, but the fear and paranoia that have always been present in their music rises as the urgency wanes. Recall “7/4 (Shoreline)”, where they stood together to face the oncoming storm. The key difference is that before, the band always exuded a relentless optimism, even in the face of all reason. Like an old group of friends reuniting for drinks and catching up, it’s familiar and free of grand expectations. The result is a large, communal atmosphere, as if they’re all in the same room jamming together. Fortunately, they avoid the stilted awkwardness of Arrested Development season four as nearly every song contains at least half, if not more, of the 19 featured musicians, including Kevin Drew, Leslie Feist, Brendan Canning, Emily Haines, Amy Milan, Andrew Whiteman, and more. With a sprawling family tree that branches into dozens of other bands, assembling everyone appears a daunting task. That comfort comes partly in the sense of hearing the entire band together again. Seven years since their last album, they’ve returned with Hug of Thunder to provide reassurance to a world even more broken than when they last left us. Throughout the 2000s, they stood at the forefront of indie rock bands speaking out against the Bush administration, raging against an insurmountable foe. Though the members of Broken Social Scene aren’t a religious group, their music has always been filled with a cathartic urgency awaiting some sort of reckoning, going back to when they were shouting “It’s All Gonna Break” at the top of their lungs. Preachers have prognosticated the end of the world as long as recorded history exists. The proverbial question lingers in the air: Now what? After three more instances, she stands alone on the roof sobbing, realizing she was wrong again. When it doesn’t, the pastor announces the date was wrong and reschedules a new Armageddon, but members of her congregation, including the woman’s family, lose faith. In the opening to season three of HBO series The Leftovers, a woman in the 1800s climbs her roof to prepare for the end of the world, an apocalyptic flood her church predicted will arrive. Treatment was administered until disease progression, unacceptable toxicity, or if patients dropped out of the trial. In the control arm, patients were treated with sunitinib at 50 mg orally once daily for the first 4 weeks of each 6-week cycle. In the combination arm, patients received pembrolizumab at 200 mg intravenously every 3 weeks for up to 35 cycles plus axitinib at 5 mg orally twice daily. Regarding PD-L1 status, 59.5% of 407 evaluated patients in the pembrolizumab/axitinib arm had a combined positive score ≥1. Previous nephrectomy had been received by 82.6% of the combination arm, and 72.9% of patients in this arm had ≥2 sites of metastases. In the combination arm, the median age was 62 years (range, 30-89), 71.3% of patients were male, and IMDC risk categories were favorable for 31.9%, intermediate for 55.1% and poor for 13%. “This was a typical frontline RCC population,” said Rini. Patients were randomized between October 24, 2016, and January 24, 2018, to either pembrolizumab plus axitinib (n = 432) or single-agent sunitinib (n = 429).īaseline characteristics were well balanced across the study arms. The international, open-label, phase 3 KEYNOTE-426 study (NCT02853331) included 861 patients aged ≥18 years with treatment-naïve, advanced RCC. “Results of the final analysis of KEYNOTE-426 continue to support pembrolizumab plus axitinib as standard of care for patients with previously untreated advanced clear cell RCC,” added Rini. Rini, MD, a professor of medicine and the inaugural chief of Clinical Trials at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center. “With a median follow-up of 42.8 months, KEYNOTE-426 represents the longest follow-up of a checkpoint inhibitor combined with a VEGF/VEGFR inhibitor for first-line clear cell RCC,” said lead study author Brian I. 1Īt a median follow-up of 42.8 months, the median overall survival (OS) was 45.7 months (95% CI, 43.6–not reached) with pembrolizumab/axitinib compared with 40.1 months (95% CI, 34.3-44.2) with sunitinib (HR, 0.73 95% CI, 0.60-0.88 P <.001). The frontline combination of pembrolizumab (Keytruda) plus axitinib (Inlyta) continued to show a survival benefit over single-agent sunitinib (Sutent) in patients with renal cell carcinoma (RCC), according to 3.5-year follow-up data from the phase 3 KEYNOTE-426 trial presented at the 2021 ASCO Annual Meeting.
